Our Promise to You
The past few months have been challenging and emotional to say the least. As we approach barley harvest I can’t help but reflect on the journey. A journey that, to date, has kept everyone on the Deer Creek team employed and healthy despite a global pandemic that has rocked the world. From the surprise arrival of our 4-week early baby boy (Luca Gabriel Brault), to a complete overhaul of the oldest production space at the malthouse make food; or the re-launch of our eCommerce site and the implementation of new controls to keep our team safe while selling direct to consumer, we have grown together each and every day.
From high to low and everywhere in between, I am so SO proud of how our team has responded to every challenge set before us, making rapid adjustments and embracing change at every turn. At the same time, we have remained committed to our mission of creating high quality, flavorful ingredients using local grain while helping those in need.
Despite this sense of pride, I can’t help feeling overwhelmed with heartbreak, fear, anger, frustration, confusion, indignation, and powerlessness to the events that have transpired over the past week. Our company stands for improvement, collaboration, and inclusion. We are driven to strengthen the local grain/malt value chain for ALL stakeholders with no exceptions, and we strive to be a force for good, for justice, for our community.
We promise to continue to be a place where discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, religious belief, or orientation will not be tolerated. And we will continue to celebrate diversity at work and in the world. As such, we pledge to donate a portion of our farmers market sales this week to the Philadelphia Bail Fund. We also pledge to keep contributing flour and malt for bread and hand sanitizer production with the Help A Neighbor campaign.
Stay healthy, stay safe, and stay hopeful friends.
